Style vs. Fashion
So what, you have a bunch of money and can buy the hottest fashion and latest trend. Well as Shania Twain says “That don’t impress me much.” Just because you can buy any luxury brand or trend doesn’t mean it looks good on you. It’s your personal style and how you wear clothes to make them your own. Anyone can buy fashion, but it’s your style that is most impressive.
When I was growing up there was no extra money for clothes or toys so I always had to be creative. In high school my outfits at times could be seen as daring or even outrageous, but one thing that could not be denied is that this girl had style.
That is why I don’t believe you need to spend a lot of money to be fashionable or stylish. It all comes down to just liking something and having the balls to wear it with the utmost confidence.
When you work with me you will not be forced into expensive brand name items. I will also not try to sell you on what is “in” right now. What is always in though is being yourself. When you're not over styled or trying to fit in we move you toward feeling like your most authentic self, your best self and your most elevated confident self.
We will cultivate your style into something timeless and sustainable for you with items you can wear over and over again in multiple ways. You will feel comfortable and confident everyday knowing you have clothes that work for you and your body type. Then you can choose to forgo short lived trends or feel the need to “fit in” because you are your own unique individual with a clear sense of style.
Style is so important though. A good sense of style can make anything fashionable. Take me in this T-shirt dress for example. Back when we were sheltering in place hard core I got used to being comfy in all my loungewear all the time, hence the choice to wear a T-shirt dress. Worn as is, this dress is a very lazy and large piece of clothing with no style or point of view. If I wore this to an in person styling appointment I am pretty sure my client would think I was lazy too. But throw on a fancy belt, a neck piece and a hat and wow….a desert cowgirl princess is born.
I know this look won’t appeal to everyone's taste, but it is my own personal style and it is clear to see that I have a style direction. I feel like this outfit says I am creative and I am confident. I lend the confidence boost to the hat because it’s making me feel like there's a new sheriff in town, and it’s me. I am digging how laid back and low maintenance this look is while also being comfortable. I would totally wear this to an in person styling appointment because you can see I am stylish, comfortable and confident and what I am wearing is also practical for this heat right now.
At the end of the day life is too short to not dress fabulous and have fun. You need to wear what makes you feel confident in your own skin and when you work with me as a stylist we will do all this and more. We will also take into account the environments you need to wear clothes in. What you wear to work will differ in what you wear to a party and I want you to dress appropriately for both situations. With me by your side we will have fun creating your style direction as you learn the fashion “rules” so we can break them together and make our own.
